B Complex Vitamin Side Effects

Vitamin B complex is made up of several naturally occurring vitamins and nutrients that the body requies for healthy functioning. When taken in normal amounts, B complex vitamin side effects are practically nonexistent.

The body requires all the vitamins and nutrients that make up vitamin B complex for a number of different reasons. In general, these vitamins allow the body to function in a normal, healthy manner. Some of the vitamins are needed to work together for performing certain functions like helping to convert glucose in the bloodstream to energy that the body can use. Other vitamins are used individually for a number of different tasks. Folic acid, for example, is an essential vitamin for growth and development, and Niacin is found in every cell in the body and is required for maintaining these cells. While many foods are rich in vitamin B complex, it is difficult to get enough through diet alone because some foods and vitamins work to deplete vitamin B once it has entered the body. As a result, many people have turned to supplements. Many, however, also worry about side effects. The good news is that when taken as directed, B complex vitamin side effects are incredibly rare.

The vitamins that make up vitamin B complex are water soluble, which means that they dissolve in water. As a result, the vitamins are absorbed by the body, and they are used to carry out a variety of different functions. When excess amounts are consumed, they are most often simply excreted from the body through the urine. This means that excess vitamin B complex does not stay in the body, and therefore, it does not usually cause any serious side effects. Studies have shown that is virtually impossible to overdose on orally taken over the counter vitamin B complex supplements. It is, however, to experience some side effects if large amounts of pharmaceutical grade supplements are ingested. While the effects of vitamins B-1 and B-2 are negligible, an overdose of niacin can have more noticeable effects. Niacin overdose can cause hot flashes, cardiac arrhythmia, and high blood sugar. The other symptoms that can indicate an overdose of B complex vitamins include signs of edema, joint pain, dehydration, fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, and depression.

Although vitamin B complex vitamins are relatively safe, it is important to always take caution when taking any vitamins. This includes carefully reading and following all dosage instructions. You should also speak with your doctor if you experience any of the possible side effects of vitamin B complex overdose.
